Ketone as expensive fuel

Compared to glucose, ketone is an “expensive” fuel, take longer time to be converted from fat. (In other way, pork is way more expensive than noodles)

Coconut oil as a good source of fat.
  1. Ketones are an alternative fuel source for the body: Normally, our bodies rely on glucose (sugar) as their primary source of energy. However, when glucose is scarce, such as during fasting or a low-carb diet, the liver produces ketones as an alternative fuel source. Ketones can be used by the brain, heart, and other organs in place of glucose.
  2. Ketones improve cognitive function: Studies have shown that ketones can improve cognitive function and protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s. This is because the brain can use ketones for energy, and ketones may be a more efficient fuel source for the brain than glucose.
  3. Ketones have anti-inflammatory effects: Research suggests that ketones have anti-inflammatory effects, which can reduce the risk of diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

To support ketone production in the body, here are some tips:

  1. Follow a high-protein, moderate-fat diet: To encourage your body to produce ketones, you’ll need to limit your intake of carbohydrates and increase your intake of protein and healthy fats. Good sources of protein include beef, chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy products like cheese and Greek yogurt. Good sources of healthy fats include nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish like salmon.
  2. Incorporate coconut oil: Coconut oil contains a type of fat called medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are easily converted into ketones by the liver. Adding a spoonful of coconut oil to your morning coffee or smoothie can help boost ketone production.
  3. Try intermittent fasting: Intermittent fasting involves alternating periods of eating with periods of fasting. During the fasting period, your body may switch to using ketones for energy. However, it’s important to speak with a healthcare professional before trying intermittent fasting, especially if you have a history of disordered eating or other health concerns.

Here are some links to studies supporting the benefits of ketones:

  1. The Ketogenic Diet for Obesity and Diabetes – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945587/
  2. The Neuroprotective Properties of Calorie Restriction, the Ketogenic Diet, and Ketone Bodies – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2367001/
  3. Anti-inflammatory Mechanisms of Ketogenic Diets: A Comprehensive Review – https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6627766/

In summary, ketones are an alternative fuel source for the body that can improve cognitive function and have anti-inflammatory effects. By following a high-protein, moderate-fat diet that includes beef, chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy products, incorporating coconut oil, or trying intermittent fasting, you can encourage your body to produce ketones and potentially reap some of these benefits.

Exercise to lose weight?

To burn 1kg of body fat, you need to burn about 7700 calories. So, let’s look at the chart below, and take running (which is 9min for 100 calories) for example.

You need to run about 700 mins (more than 10 hours) to burn 1kg of body fat. That’s insane!

Luckily there is a better way. Fasting.

There is a so called ‘basal metabolic rate’ in our body, as in, the calories that our body need to use to supply the basic functions, such as breathing, heart beat, digestion, thinking, detoxification, blood pressure control, etc.

Such calories can easily range from 1500 – 2500, it’s like more than 2 hours of running. So, without exercise, and of course with fasting, you could easily burn off those extra body fat from your body.

1kg within 3-4 days just with water only.

That is why, intermittent fasting is so effective on losing weight.

Use the calculator below to calculate your ‘basal metabolic rate’

What to drink when fasting

What getting people struggle during the fasting period is the craving for food, but, we can drink actually. And of course what to drink is the key thing during this period.

In ancient time, our ancestors actually don’t eat for 3 meals a day. Properly, they able to hunt down a bison for a day, and the whole villagers finished off them.

That’s it, they would spent another few days to do the hunting again. They fast for few days actually.

So, “technically” we don’t really crave for food, is the what we eat that make us crave. And, there is no such thing “fasting” so to speak.

Okay, now back to our topic again, what you can drink during the fasting period

  • Water
  • Black Coffee (before noon time)
  • Tea

Just think about these 3 only!

Fasting cure cancer

We mentioned before, when they body is resting for longer period, as in not spending energy for digesting food, our body will be in a cell fixing state.

https://youtu.be/tXmyJYLxUKE

Cell fixing recycles the unwanted substance and older cells, make them as the fuel to be consumed by body. Those that cannot be recycled one will be purged out from our body in the form of sweat, urine or feces.

Cancer cell is actually the cell that mutated that due to toxic, free radicals, “bad hormone”. And the tumor is a form of “trash bin” that collect all these cancer cells.

Yes, tumor is a mechanism to protect your own body. And since they are just merely cells, we can recycle them through fasting!

Our body really need good rest. 3 meals per day won’t help. Exercise with 3 meals won’t help either. Let’s cut down our meal into 1 or 2 per day. Go!

Fasting: Before and After

Our dear parents might be one or tow of the people surrounding us that not taking our advices seriously.

Before and after

Take example, ask them not to take porridge (or congee) for the breakfast or in the event of falling sick, they just won’t listen to it. Another example, ask them not to eat the rice at all, it’s like going to take their life.

Well, luckily my father kind follow the advice at once. He lost over 20kg over 1 year of time. And he maintains below 70 (from over 90) for years.

He previously already ditched the carbs for about 1 year, later on he skipped the breakfast entirely, until now. Once in a while, he practice one meal a day as well.

OMAD

One Meal A Day is an eating lifestyle that can greatly improve your health. But is it suitable for everyone?

It’s been few months that I personally practice OMAD on the weekdays. Still 2 meals per day over the weekend because that’s the family day that everyone must enjoy!

Do I feel hungry? Not really, since I skipped the breakfast from mid-2019, there isn’t much noise coming from the stomach anymore; the ghrelin is well tamed.

However, is it good for the body?

Don’t our grandparents and parents always remind us to take 3 meals per day. Wrong habit. Our body needs good rest to do cell fixing, that’s the time the unwanted substance or old parts get recycled. Having 3 meals per day won’t help, because digestion consumes too much of our energy.

Alright, how to begin OMAD?

Start by skipping the breakfast.
